The Rules of Backgammon - MOVING:
Players must move clearly, using one hand to move the checkers. In Backgammon a player has to re enter any piece on the bar before they can move any other pieces. It is forbidden for another player to move any pieces during the other players turn. - CHECKER HANDLING:
In Backgammon any piece that has been landed on by another player%u2019s piece must stay on the center bar until that player is able to put it back in play. Backgammon pieces that have been removed from the board must stay off the board until the Backgammon game is over. - LIFTING DICE:
When a player is finished with his turn he announces this by lifting up the dice. If for any reason a player must reposition a die he must first tell the other player his intentions. After a player has lifted his dice from the table he can only move a piece if the other player demands a redo because of an illegal move by the other player. - PREMATURE ACTIONS:
It is forbidden for a Backgammon player to roll his dice during another player turn, if this happens the roll is no good and will be re-rolled when it is the players turn. If the premature roll is a double then it stand but the player who is still moving may now continue his turn with the knowledge of the double. - ERROR IN SETUP:
If an error was made during the set up it must be reported before the fifth round of play. After the fifth round the game is official, so if a piece was left off the board during the set up and was not noticed a player can still be gammoned or backgammoned. - ILLEGAL MOVES:
If an illegal move has been made the other player has the option to make the player redo the move or he can allow it this is done by the other player rolling there dice after the illegal move has been made. These are the official rules of backgammon for compition.
